Why Your Client Relationships are So Important

Anyone who is involved in real estate will understand that while you’re selling property, you’re effectively in the people business.

The relationships you have with other people and in particular, your clients, will have a huge say in your overall level of success.

Here are just a few reasons why your client relationships are so important.

Client Focused

A succesful agent is an agent who listens. Your job as a real estate agent or a property manager is to always get the best result for your client, who is the vendor of the property owner. This means that if you’re launching a marketing campaign and preparing to sell, you will likely be talking with your client every single day.

As an agent, you need to have a large amount of rapport and trust, to help facilitate the sales process. The stronger your relationship, the the smoother it is going to be to communicate and have important sometimes hard discussions when difficulties arise.

If you focus on building a relationship first and listening to your clients, even when pitching your services, you will stand out from the crowd and the entire process will be more enjoyable for all parties involved.

Word of mouth

While there are a lot of real estate agents across the country, the industry is still small and people talk. If you work hard for your clients and are able to build and maintain strong relationships, it’s likely that you’re going to be spoken about favourably.

You come into contact with so many people every single day and it is often easier to remain at a surface level with someone. But the more you put into building a relationship, no matter how significant you might think it is, in the long run, people will hear about you and the interest you take in your clients.

They affect your reputation

In real estate, your reputation is everything. Your reputation is built on the way you conduct yourself, whether you do what you tell people you’re going to do and the way you relate to others - particularly your clients.

No one wants to work with someone who is nasty or doesn’t care about their clients, and if you have poor client relationships this might be what happens.

Focus on understanding your client's needs. Ask questions, listen and try to solve their problems. If you do that you build rapport and trust and establish the foundations of a strong relationship. A great way to build rapport, connections and leads is to get involved in your local community.

It’s who you know

The stronger your client relationships, the more your clients are going to go into bat for you when the time comes.

If you’ve done everything in your power to understand your client's situation and then run a high-quality marketing campaign, you can be sure that the client will be more than happy to recommend your services to their friends, family and colleagues.

In real estate, it is often about who you know, so the more happy clients you have that can act as a referral network the better. It all starts with initially building a strong relationship with your clients.
